Huskie Tracks

The F.A. Huskie Track Program

The PBIS Committee has decided to expand the school guiding principles of being respectful, being responsible, being cooperative, and being safe.  The staff and students began a program focusing on acts of kindness/civility.  We emphasize the need for manners and respect for others and ourself.  The staff accentuates their belief that students could be successful.  They emphasize that success was based on making good choices.  The staff and the PBIS committee explained that making good choices meant deciding to change behavior and actions if they were not helping the student to be successful.

Students are awarded Huskie tracks for positive behavior, civility and acts of kindness.  Teachers give students Huskie Tracks.  The teachers fill in the student’s name and the teacher’s name.  Then the students deposit the Huskie Track in a bin near the main office which was built by some of our students.  At the end of each month, there are drawings to determine the winners of the prizes.

Through this many facets of the school –family come together to establish this program.  The Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support Team, Student Council, and the FA School Improvement Committee, along with many outside businesses and agencies donate money and prizes to be used to buy monthly prizes.  These groups also solicit additional prizes from local merchants who give very generously.  These prizes are displayed in a show case in the main lobby of Franklin Academy.

The culmination for the program was the drawing for the grand prize last year of a 1992 Buick Regal valued at $5000… which was donated by Ellis Pontiac, GMC.  This year we will be drawing for a vehicle donated by Bailey Ford.  Any student whom receives a Huskie Track throughout the year is collected and placed in a large barrel and from all those Huskie Tracks 10 names are drawn.  From those 10 names each student comes forth and draws a key from the blind box.  The students then take a turn trying their key to start the car.  The student with the key that starts the car is the winner.

The acts of kindness or civility are a reward in themselves.  This allows students to practice being respectful, responsible, cooperative, and safe.  Students practice good manners and develop habits that help them be successful at Franklin Academy and after they leave high school.  It sis our belief that the emphasis on kindness and civility will help the students be better employees and citizens.
